20 Picnic Recipe Ideas

Picnics are great, aren’t they? Eating al fresco in the sun, with snack-sized portions, and a picnic blanket. The only problem with them is that the food can get…a little boring. It’s always the same stuff! Sandwiches, Scotch eggs, and crisps. We thought we’d see if we can offer some suggestions to liven up your picnics so we’ve put together a list of the best recipes around. 1.     Coronation Drumsticks

You’ve had coronation chicken sandwich filler, but have you had drumsticks? Fruity and exotic, these are sure to be a hit at your next picnic!

These might sound like they’re made from lots of speciality ingredients, but this is actually a fairly basic recipe. Not up for making your own pastry? Buy it in. Who’ll know?

3.     Honeydew, Cucumber & Mint Cooler

This is a healthy alternative to fizzy, sugary drinks that are oh-so-tempting on days out. There is no added sugar in this, or even honey or any other sweeteners. All of the sweetness comes from the melon. Yum.

4.     Falafel Scotch Eggs

Do you love Scotch eggs but wish they were healthier? This vegetarian twist on an old classic is both healthy and tasty. What’s not to love?

5.     Cypriot-Style Potato Salad
Capers and lemon juice make this filling side dish fresh and zesty, just what you need on a summer afternoon!

Why does food in a jar always taste better? Maybe with this recipe, it’s all the gorgeous, fresh ingredients. This is so simple, with next to no cooking, that even the most reluctant cook won’t mind.

Sausage rolls feature in most picnics, but these have a bit of a twist. The chillies and paprika will add a bit of heat to your picnic.

We don’t know if we’d be able to wait until dessert for these. This one might be more for the grown-ups but don’t let that stop you.
