DESCRIPTION

Historic medieval castle originally built in 1106 and altered down the ages. Once home of the powerful Norman Earls of Devon and of Princess Katherine Plantagenet, daughter of Edward IV, and favourite aunt of Henry VIII. 

The only time the Castle has seen battle was in 1645 when it was captured by Thomas Fairfax due to a lucky shot hitting the drawbridge chain.

Now a peaceful private house open to the public from Easter to the end of October on Sundays, Thursdays, and Bank Holiday Mondays, 2.30-5.30, last admission 5.00. 
Free parking.

Tours are free range, but on most Sundays there is an optional excellent guided tour starting at about 2.45pm. at no extra charge.

Fun for children - try on some Civil War armour, see medieval loos once cleaned out by children, fascinating history, ghost stories, interesting furniture and pictures, beautiful gardens set in romantic ruins.

Tiverton Castle is open to the public from Easter Sunday to the end of October on Sundays, Thursdays and Bank Holiday Mondays from 2.30pm ‑ 5.30pm. Last admission is 5.00pm.

DIRECTIONS

Turn off M5 at Junction 27 and go a full 7 miles on A361 towards Tiverton till large roundabout where Castle is signposted.
Turn first left.
At second roundabout shortly afterwards turn second left. 
At third one go straight ahead up the hill.
